A Podcastable Street Art Mashup

Here's a nice little mashup/ podcast of some of my recent-ish street art shots from around NYC, using a cool new site called Splash Cast Media. Check it out, lemme know what you think.  Ill have more soon when i figure out how to rock the video feature the way i want it.  Oh yeah....i got some sizzlin stuff in the works...don't you worry your pretty head.

The 7 Train Comes and Goes

You animation is ready

in Long Island City, Queens there she blows.
FYI: I made this with a cool tool called Gickr that mashes together photos on your Flickr account into a GIF file.  Its a terrifically cool tool that I've always hoped would come out eventually.  Now I probably won't sleep for days as I will be vigorously mashing photos together for the next 3 or 4 days.  Thanks Gickr!

Are you paying out the ass for your rent?

rentometer.png
Probably.  But this tool will tell you if you are paying to much...or rather, more than others in your hood. Rentometer gives you a visual representation of your rent versus the regional median.  How snazzy is that?  Well...justiNYC predicts that it could be a pretty useful tool in NYC, if they made it work in about 30 different languages and steered clear of information taken from brokers.

Some Do It Yourself Throwing Stars that might get you arrested

Forget paper throwing stars, these things will hurt.  These real deal stars [from Instructables] look like they pack a punch!  Now, I'm not recommending that you throw these at brokers or anything. In fact, hardware like this might be better left to real ninjas.

Deal with Real Estate Stress: Make a Ninja Star and Throw it at your Broker

But be careful, he just might have a few of his own.  If you have a little time on your hands, try making a few paper throwing stars for the next time you go on the real estate hunt.  Chances are youl want to throw them at a few brokers or owners before settling with something.  And if you get the chance to hang out with the LoftNinja, you could be in for a little fun as he will (more often than not) be more than happy to join you in your war.

"Trendy Micro-Ass Nabe Names" and Google Maps Has them

2006_08_googlemap.jpg
Thanks to Curbed for pointing out that Google Maps now has NYC neighborhood names indicated when you zoom out a little bit.  Apparently there are a few who are none too excited for this technological development.  Maybe we should just make Brooklyn a neighborhood and Manhattan a neighborhood and call the whole thing good...right?  I suppose next someone will try to tell me that Greenwick isn't micro-trendy. Nonsense!  Its just not trendy.

Pre-layout your tiny NYC crib with this Room Planner

Remember a while back justiNYC tipped you off to how to make templates for your furniture when moving? Sure you do.  Well, lets take it a step further and skip all the cut and shape.  A site called HGTV.com gives you this handy dandy online tool for planning the layout of your crib.  So now in your free time, you can dream about all that extra space you don't have in your little East Village joint! Hooray!!!   I wonder if it can tell you the best place to store your toothbrush in the kitchen.

Its the price you pay to live in the city, but it always pays to plan ahead.

Google goes Green with thier new map mashups for environmentally friendly destinations

Good Grief... Google's done Gone and Got Green! Their new map mashup for environmentally friendly destinations in the US.  The mashup supposedly points out happy granola-type destinations and
services in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Orlando or San Francisco.  A suggestion from Google via Lifehacker:

try searching for “environmentally friendly hotels” instead of
just “hotels” when researching trips to any city.

I'd hug a tree, but its hard to find one in NYC hugworthy!  Maybe i should try this mappy thing.....hmmm

Create spreadsheets online and share them with your associates

The Pro suggests NumSum, if you care to create easily created and sharable web spreadsheets online.
numsum
A real estate agent- blogger could find a lot of use for this handy tool.  Keep track of listings, log your commissions, never lose track of your expenses again.  If you're an agent that works for a small company, like me, you'll appreciate being able to share information with your co-workers regarding hot properties, inside information and data relating to the current market. Enjoy!
[link tip passed on by a Flickr buddy, runswithscissors]

I suppose this is as good of a time as any to introduce one of justiNYC's many side projects.  Behold, allow me to introduce Real Estate Blog Pro: Real Estate Blog Pro This will not be just a run of the mill how-to-blog blog, but rather an ongoing help site for real estate agents who want to learn how to blog and would like some tips and hacks for doing so.  The Pro has a lot of tricks up his sleeve that he plans to share with the real estate community at large.  The first few posts have dealt with the nature of RSS, AJAX homepages, imaging tools and such. All of the content will build upon itself (like a philosophy class) and eventually the Pro will show how to use some of these tools in very unordinary ways.  For example, this week he plans to show how to create email newsletters with tools you didn't even know could be used that way.  In the near future, the format will change to more of a dialogue and question/ answer type of structure.  Feel free to join in and by all means, subscribe to the RSS feed and have new tips and tricks in your reader about 3 or 4 times a week.

Also feel free to contribute and definately comment. Please keep in mind that the Pro definately does not intend to insult anyone's intellegence by offering tips that some of you out there may already know.  This blog will assume that some real estate agents out there with a voice and no idea how to speak it, may just need a bit of encouragement.   Got a tip or trick you'd like to share? Please submit your tips to agentartist-at-gmail.com

a new Flickr group for NYC commercial space

www.flickr.com

photos in NYC Commercial Space for Rent tagged with loftninja More photos in NYC Commercial Space for Rent tagged with loftninja

The LoftNinja came up with another pretty cool idea today.  ..well two ideas.
The first: A Flickr photopool geared exclusively for NYC Commercial property for lease that i will leave open for  any real estate person (in the 5boroughs) to post in. The reason for this being a good idea may not be immediately apparent- and this is because it will only become something that other brokers will actually do when you actually do what the second idea requires.
The second: go into your Flickr photostream and find the link on the right side of the page that lets you create a badge. In step 3, select the option for 'groups' and in the 'tags' field put a term unique to your photos. For example, LoftNinja uses loftninja as a tag, therefore only those particular spaces unique to him will appear when you place the HTML code that follows in a blog post or sidebar. Create your own badge and put it whereever you like...with your own tags.  Co-brokering is not required to add to this pool, nevertheless i imagine it'd be nice if we could help each other out every now and again. Its a very simple, free way to put yourself out there.

I could just keep stuff like this to myself, but what would be fun (let alone, progressive) about that?  Be creative...and share.                                                                                  kill the shade

two new Web 2.0 tools i will be using in the future

The adcloud is going to be a site that I plan to start using instead of craigslist for rentals, i think.  Well see how it picks up but for now it looks like the best idea for classifieds that I have seen in a while.

adcloud

As for RSS, I plan to clean up my sidebars by using MultiRSS instead of all the chicklets that I have hitherto utilized for providing subscription options for my readers.

How one could MAKE a Loft on MakeBlog

howtobuildaloft"

A terrifically NYC useful post on Make Blog for how to make a Loft.   If you live in NYC and are scraping by with one of those "under $100k per year" gigs, chances are you have one (or need one).  justiNYC assumes that it won't be necessary to explain the space issues in the city that demand such an object- lets just say that they are necessary if you plan to not sleep on top of your television.  Most affordable apartments (say under $2000 per month) are like glorified dorm rooms, compared to most anywhere else in the country.  This is why it could be a good idea to try this loft recipe from the Elephant Stairs posse.

This idea is mainly geared towards college kids building a loft for their dorm room so that they can better utilize limited space, but we hope it inspires you to do more.

Sometimes youll get lucky and find a crib that already has a loft built for you, but don't bank on it.  Hopefully this tip may help you in your time of need.
