Real Estate Roundup and Cool Looking Heat Map

As Curbed points out, not the kind of heat you're thinking of sitting in.  Its a map of the property values as priced by square foot across the five boroughs. Interested?  Well you might also like to know that (according to the Walk Through and NY Daily News), the average price of a Manhattan apartment is at a new record high-- $1,386,000  The Gods We must be crazy!

Real Estate Roundup #3

HotProperty this week notes that "the nation is losing approximately 200,000 rental housing units each year due to demolition, significantly compounding the ongoing housing affordability squeeze gripping millions of families." A Harvard study, just released, highlights gentrification as the terminator of low cost rentals and affordable housing across the nation. A perfect example:  Good ole Williamsburg and Greenpoint!

Exactly what is the Brooklyn Navy Yard anyway? Well, the Village Voice had a close-up on the area and it seems they had a little trouble finding out as well.  Instead, like many other these days, they wound up explaining more about everything outside of the Navy Yard itself- such as the Chocolate Factory Lofts and all the warehouses that surround the area. They did good, however to mention Mojitos, the Cuban restaurant close by.  That place is damn good!  In fact, it might be the best reason for moving over to that ghosttown.

According to the Sun (and Real Deal agrees), the presence of Israelis in New York creates a spike in real estate.  They even go so far as to add that Manhattan (excuse me, City Mountain) should be called "Little Tel Aviv." Hmmm...don't see that going over so well...

Demolition started yesterday at Atlantic Yards, Bruce Ratner's $3.5 billion development project in Prospect Heights [Real Deal]. In the NY Post, the Underberg building was under the magnifying glass as opponents try to save it from the wrecking ball.  Ratner won't hear a word of it as he has everyone believing that the site (1 of 6 he is looking to level) is a public hazard.

and finally... Bushwick is the NEXT new neighborhhood....well, according to these guys, these guys...oh, and these.  justiNYC lived there 2 years ago. So...i guess that makes me ahead of the times. (btw. the Times had the flagship article on the topic)

Real Estate Round-up #2

It is guesstimated that there will be 10 million NYers by the year 2025, according to the NY Times, via Real Deal.  And only 3 of them will be starving artists.

Several iconic buildings in Williamsburg and Greenpoint get placed in the  "7 to save" list by the Preservation League of New York.  Among those, the Dominoe Sugar Factory and our very own Old Dutch Mustard building (well, not our  very own, of course-but, we do have the nicest fotos). [thanks Brownstoner and NY Daily News]

Craigslist makes the news!  Can you believe it?  Property Grunt can and so can LiveDeal.com, yet another alternative to forking out the change to Craig and his crew. (Kinda looks like Google got in a fight with "lets make a Deal!"

Propshark releases, yet another map.  This time its for property sales.  These guys are on Fiyah!

Zillow is finally out.  Whoop-te-friggin-do. I suppose now we'll get a chance to figure out what the hell it does!
